Lockjaw: Under normal circumstances, the position would go to the next officer of rank after the commander. However, it falls on me to decide if said officer is or isn't up to the task. This is a House Fenris ship, not the Banner Sentinels. Both your wingmates are here as foreign volunteers, and that makes the matter of rank more complicated. Mattrick was not able to do his duty as wing leader, and I had to consider the alternatives. Fadeneir is a very promising pilot, but she's young and lacks experience. And a feline wing leader on a Fenrisian ship could be a problem.

Jake: Permission to speak freely, sir?

Lockjaw: Granted.

Jake: Lt. Fadeneir just saved the lives of everyone on this ship. And if the crew can't respect her after all that--

Lockjaw: I'm not talking about the crew. As a mutt, I'm sure you're aware that our high command still has a lot of... "room for improvement."

Jake: Part of why I became a knight was to prove that my kind can serve our nation just as proudly as any other Fenrisian. Fadeneir wants that for her people, too. I hope someday our leaders can all see things the way I do.

Lockjaw: Those are noble ambitions, Marshall. And I hope you'll prove I've made the right call. Oh, and some of the crew wish to meet with you in the Arboretum. Dismissed.
